My name is Ekan Thomason. Ekan is my ordination name and it was given to me by my teacher, Bishop Asahi. It comes from the Classic Chinese translation of the Lotus Sutra Chapter 25. It means, One Who Contemplates Wisdom. The two kanji characters that make up my name are 'e' (sounds like 'e' in echo) and 'kan' (which sounds like khan in Kubla Khan).
I recently moved from California to Arizona in order to do the three-year retreat. An opportunity arose that allowed me to live on some sacred land not far from Diamond Mountain. I will be doing the retreat on this holy site.
